Giving

The mission of the SSH Development Office is to advance the mission of the school, as well as the Network of Sacred Heart Schools. Through the many gifts the school receives, our administrators, educators, and staff in turn strive to instill in each student a love of God, love of learning, a commitment to community service, loving one another, and making wise choices through life. Your gift to the school, in any of the mentioned forms ensures the spiritual and academic excellence required for students to succeed.

Giving Opportunities

Annual Giving

The Annual Giving Appeal raises money needed to make up the difference between the tuition received and the actual cost of educating students, as well as maintaining the school buildings and grounds. It is the anchor of Sacred Heart’s development efforts.

Endowment

Endowment gifts are those that donors specify to be retained and invested for income producing purposes. Income can be either restricted or unrestricted based on the donor’s wishes.

Gifts In-Kind

Gifts In-Kind are “non-cash” donations of materials or items such as playground equipment, printing, decorations for special events, and restaurant donations for food. Individuals are often able to increase their level of participation by contributing through their place of business.

Honorarium Gifts and Memorials

Memorials and Honoraria are monetary gifts made to the school’s Coteau Remembers program to memorialize, thank or honor an individual or group. Unless specified, these gifts are used in the current year’s operating budget.

Planned Giving

Planned Giving can be a gift of stock, real estate, life insurance, cash, or a bequest in a will. While there are many types of planned giving, will and bequests are the most common.

Scholarships

Scholarships are part of the restricted endowment and consist of contributions from donors that are designated to either a specific (named) scholarship or to the general scholarship fund.

Stocks

Appreciated stocks offer two advantages. First, the donor avoids paying any capital gains tax on the increase in the value of the stock. Second, the donor receives an income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock at the time of the gift.

Technology

Donors can take advantage of the often overlooked unique state tax credit for computer gifts, which offer a two-fold tax savings. The State of Louisiana offers donors a 40% income tax credit for gifts of technology donated to an educational institution. In addition, the donor receives a federal charitable income tax deduction.
