HISTORY

The Academy of the Sacred Heart has educated students since 1821. After 186 years of training young women, the school now provides Sacred Heart education to boys. Named St. John Berchmans School, in honor of the Jesuit saint who appeared to a young woman in the religious community and cured her of a fatal illness, the innovative program will focus on the unique educational needs of boys. With the founding of St. John Berchmans School, the Schools of the Sacred Heart will provide the only opportunities for single-gender education for boys and for girls in the Acadiana region.
