Schools of the Sacred Heart : Admission : Frequently Asked Questions
SSH: Frequently Asked Questions

Once I submit the application, what is the next step?

After you submit your application to our office, the most important step for you to complete is to hand the Transcript Release and Recommendation Forms to the appropriate people at your child’s school, as well as to submit additional Transcript Release forms to any previous school your child has attended. We will also contact you to schedule an individual appointment during which we will test your child. Your child’s file cannot be considered until this information has been received, so we encourage you to follow up with the school to see that these items have been sent directly to our office.

Once all of the necessary documents have been received, we will contact you to schedule a parent interview. For applicants in grades 5-11, a student interview will be scheduled as well.

What entrance exam do you give, and what can I do to prepare my child?

We do not disclose what entrance exams we administer for any grade level in an effort to be equitable, since some students may have access to preparation materials and others may not. In general, the testing gauges both ability and skill level, and will be scored using age-appropriate norms. We suggest that to prepare, your child review basic skills in English and Mathematics. For younger children, age-appropriate skills and concepts, including phonics, should be anticipated.

I am applying for Financial Aid. Will that affect whether my child is accepted?

No. Applying for Admission and Financial Aid are completely separate processes. The Academy is committed to need-blind admission, as well as to socio-economic diversity. The school’s aim is that no qualified student should be denied a Sacred Heart education because of finances.
